On Girls’ second full-length album ‘Father, Son, Holy Ghost,’ the San  Francisco duo of  Christopher Owens and Chet “JR” White  continue to  brighten their mood  and expand their sound. Owens explores  classic  Brill Building pop  songcraft, some serious  psych-rock guitar chops and  even gospel backup  singers.

The New Jersey hard rock band Monster Magnet kind of disappeared  after the late 90s and a major label stint, which is a shame — the  band’s space rock/metal sound packed a psychedelic charge. Friday, MM performed their  biggest record, “Dopes to Infinity,” live at the Music Hall of  Williamsburg.

Their sound, an amalgam of Afro-pop, indie and dance rock, hits all the right notes. On Thursday, the band headlined the Music Hall of Williamsburg.
